Strength Training for Menopause & Perimenopause

Your body is changing. The workouts that used to work don't anymore.

You’re not falling behind. Your body is asking for a different approach: strength training built for exactly where you are now, not where you were ten years ago.

With more than 30 years of experience in strength training and coaching, Charissa brings both professional expertise and personal experience to helping women build strength through midlife and beyond.

We don’t chase quick fixes.
We build foundations.

Beginner Strength Training Programs for Women Over 40

You don't need to have lifted before. Don’t know what a compound movement is? No problem.

You need someone to meet you where you are, and to build from there.

Every program starts with your body: your history, your goals, your capacity right now. Not a generic "beginner plan." This is YOUR plan.

Custom Programming, Not a Generic Workout Plan

Charissa designs your programming around your goals, training history, recovery, strength, and the changes that can accompany perimenopause and menopause.

This is strength training built to give you capacity for the decades ahead, rather than a number on a scale.

  • Build strength that supports your body through perimenopause and menopause

  • Train with programming that adjusts as your body changes, week to week

  • Support muscle and bone health for the decades ahead

  • Feel steady and capable in your body again, without extremes

  • Work with a coach who's building her own strength through the same transition

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best workout for perimenopause?

There isn’t one “best” workout for every woman in perimenopause. Your training should reflect your current fitness level, goals, recovery, and how your body is responding to the changes of this stage of life.

That said, strength training should be a foundational part of your routine. Building and maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as we age, supporting strength, bone health, metabolism, balance, and the ability to stay active and independent.

A well-rounded program can also include cardiovascular exercise, mobility, and adequate recovery. The goal isn’t to exercise harder or do more. It’s to train strategically for the body you have now.

At Built4Her, I help women 40+ build a strength-focused approach that supports their health, confidence, and long-term quality of life.

How do I start strength training as a complete beginner?

Typically, through a structured, supervised program that starts with foundational movement patterns before adding load.

Why is strength training important for menopausal women?

Strength training is valuable for maintaining muscle mass and bone density during and after menopause.

Are there exercises women should avoid during menopause?

This is highly individual and something a coach should assess directly.
